Stayinghealthy and fit

Don't lose sight of those good intentions!

The headlines are off. The first weeks of 2021 are over, including dry January. A good moment to check how things are going with the good intentions. Is it going well, nice and also important: is it still fun? With these tips and advice, specially selected for Dordrecht Maggezien, you will come through the winter refreshed, fit and happy.

Doughnut bread as a healthy basis

Mo Sadaat and his wife Sahar Atta sell 100% desiccated breads in their Bakery Together. Good for the stomach and intestines and suitable for people who want to lose weight. "It's actually very simple", explains the enthusiastic baker. "Our breads do not contain any bad things like sugar, butter, milk or other unnecessary additives like bread improvers. It takes about 15 hours for a loaf to be ready. But then you have a good bread; a healthy basis and tasty with all kinds of dishes. Moreover, it fits perfectly in a diet. A colleague of ours lost ten kilos on wholemeal spelt bread.

Bakkerij Samen has no fewer than thirteen different types of desiccated bread in its assortment, ranging from multigrain for breakfast to special ones with sultanas, almonds, olives and much more. Fortunately, delicious and healthy go together very well!

How tolive healthily

"Vitamin C and D as an additional supplement to healthy food is always wise at this time of year," says branch manager Debbie Braun at health shop Holland & Barrett. "But since corona, the demand for vitamin D, to support the immune system, has increased enormously." Vitamins and supplements are only a fraction of the health specialist's offering of only natural products. Starting detox to get rid of waste products? Debbie and her colleagues are happy to advise.

"You can easily do that with one of the many teas or products with milk thistle in it to support the cleansing effect of the liver. Have a nice herbal tea and drink less coffee or use a natural sugar substitute instead of sugar. Or bake a healthy cake yourself with one of the many flours we sell. That's how you get one step closer to a healthier lifestyle."

Start the day with Finn's smoothiebowl

Ingredients: yoghurt, strawberry, pomegranate, banana, raspberries, blueberries and Mel's granola.

Mel's granola: mix in a bowl to taste oat flakes, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and chopped nuts. Melt in a pan on low heat 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 2 tablespoons agave syrup, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 2 tablespoons water. Pour this mixture into a bowl and stir well. Spread the granola on a baking tray (with baking paper) and bake for about 20 minutes in a preheated oven at 150 degrees.

Mix the pomegranate and strawberry with the yoghurt in the blender. Fill your best bowl with the yoghurt and garnish with the granola and fruit.

Doing sports outside

Running is excellent in one of Dordrecht's parks, the Biesbosch or in the city centre. There are also several places to go for strength training. Do workouts with your own body weight and visit one of the calisthenics locations in the Leerpark, Wantijpark, Weizigtpark or Sterrenburgpark. In the Wantijpark, the trim track with 17 pieces of equipment is a nice fitness alternative to the gym, which unfortunately is still closed. In the playground in the Overkamppark, on the other side of the Sportboulevard and the hospital, there are also some calisthenics equipment for good exercise.

While you're there, why not take a stroll through the beautiful neighbouring Dubbelmonde Park? Who knows, you might even run into the Scottish Highlanders. After all, a walk gives you a lot of energy.
