The Art and Antiques Market on the Nieuwkerksplein has been a household name in Dordrecht for fifteen years. For art and antique lovers, but actually for everyone who loves fine things and conviviality. There are books and vinyl records to be found and all sorts of bric-a-brac. Add to the forty stalls full of goodies the terrace and music from a live band and you know: the Art and Antiques Market is bursting with fun and is there for everyone who likes a good time! "People can wander around and have a good time dancing and horsing around," organizer Sylvia Landa says of the Dordrecht event that has become a staple of the city. "Every year it's a very sociable event. Some people come just for the music, others are looking for a particular item and try to find it at the market. The nice thing is that everything comes together during this event. From sitting on the terrace with a freshly tapped beer to finely browsing for that one thing you're still missing in your home." The Art and Antiques Market takes place every first Sunday of the month, with the exception of July.
Weekend of Biodiversity
It is almost time for the second edition of the Weekend of Biodiversity: for three days, Dordrechters get to know nature from early morning to late at night. 23 organizations are participating in the weekend, at 21 different locations in the city. Almost in every neighborhood there is something to do! In the evening and night, for example, go on a moth and bat hunt. Are you more of an early bird? Then there's an early bird tour or nightingale walk. If you are more of a fan of making things, choose from a variety of workshops where you can roll up your sleeves. Make a bird's nest box, bug slurp jar or help with a flower picking garden. Children learn to discover small critters and aquatic creatures, make a flower arrangement or go on an adventure in the youth village. "The weekend went really well last year," said Leanne Stange of the organization. "That's why we are organizing the event again now. Nature is very close by, but not everyone knows that. Even in places where you wouldn't expect it, like in the Dordtse Kil."
Avondvierdaagse Dordrecht
The Avondvierdaagse Dordrecht has become indispensable in the city and is a real tradition. New this year are the organization and the starting location. Nobel's Dordrecht is taking on the organization and chose the FC Dordrecht stadium as the starting location. Children walk for four evenings, in various routes of five kilometers per evening. On the last evening, the Friday evening, there will be a reception in the stadium, with DJ. Of course the participants will receive a medal, because after all, it should not go unnoticed that they have walked for four evenings! Willemijn Nobel can't wait for it to happen. "It's about having fun together, being outside and being proud of yourself. We're going to make it something really fun, for now and for years to come." Each evening at 6:30 p.m., the departure is from the stadium. Fifteen minutes earlier the warm-up begins, to warm up the muscles for the miles ahead. Registration is now closed, but all elementary school age children can participate!
