For anyone who is curious about how Hendrik Groen fared after the closure of the nursing home in Amsterdam North, there is good news: he is coming back to the theatre! In 'Opgewekt naar de eindstreep', the Netherlands' most beloved senior citizen has to face the fact that time is no longer so kind to him: he becomes increasingly forgetful and starts to lose track of things. This leads to confusing situations. By keeping a diary again, the demented Hendrik and his faithful friends Leonie (88) and Frida (10) try to keep a grip on life.

This makes for a touching comedy with funny and poignant moments. As in previous 'Hendrik Groen' performances, the cast consists of young actors - with Beau Schneider in the lead. Hendrik Groen's diaries, which were awarded the NS Publieksprijs, have sold more than half a million copies. A TV series was made of it and the theatre version drew crowds.
