Product description

The multi-faceted history of the Dolhuis begins in the Middle Ages, when the building was used as a monastery by the Cellebroeders. In 1572, the building was allocated to the city and made suitable for the admission of lunatics. Later it is expanded with a disciplinary and workhouse for beggars, vagrants and criminals. In 1723 the madhouse is sold and the residents move to the Leprooshuis in the Vriesestraat.

The building later became private property and is still so today. In the past centuries, the complex was used as a bluebell factory and studio for glazier Toon Berg, among other things. In the 1960s, it became a meeting centre for young people. Currently, the complex houses a nightclub and offices.
