Synopsis
At a magnificent feast in 18th-century Paris, poet Andrea Chénier delivers a blazing speech against Louis XVI. Five years later, the Revolution has turned to terror, which changes the balance of power between Chénier, his beloved Maddalena, and Gérard, the man who can destroy him... Jonas Kaufmann sings the lead role in David McVicar's spectacular performance, under the musical direction of Antonio Pappano, with whom he has worked many times before. This epic historical drama by Giordano is the last production for Pappano as conductor of The Royal Opera.
