The Guitar
For generations, the guitar has been an integral part of daily life: from influential bands like The Tielman Brothers and The Blue Diamonds to living rooms, family celebrations, and casual get-togethers. But why this instrument in particular? Within the Indonesian, Indo, and Moluccan communities, the guitar has never been just about music. It is a way to express feelings for which there is sometimes no language. It’s a way to make a shared past tangible, without explicitly naming it. The guitar connects generations: from (grand)parents who had to leave their culture behind to children and grandchildren who are reshaping that culture. What is passed down often happens unconsciously but always carries meaning.
