From September 21 to October 1, the city center will be buzzing with activities during Festival for the Flood. Dordrecht will be celebrating the city's readiness for the storm season and learning more about water safety and what you can do in the event of a flood.

Ready for the flood

During the festival, the city works in ten days towards the start of the storm season on October 1. The big kickoff is on Saturday, September 21, when the city center of Dordrecht will draw attention to flooding and flooding in various playful ways. But, above all, we will celebrate the fact that Dordrecht is ready for the Flood!

Sandbags, sea creatures and beavers

Prepare for the flood with a variety of activities. On Saturday, Sept. 21, pop-up street theater portrays life with high tide in a playful way. You can see vans driving around with sandbags, underwater animals floating through the streets or beavers building a dam across a shopping street. The street theater can be found throughout downtown.

Stay high and dry

Come to the High & Dry Storm theater in a special house on the Voorstraat. You will be escorted to the attic by Rijkswaterstaat and there watery scenes await. Or experience what it's like to take shelter during a flood without light and electricity with the Hoog & Droog attic route.

Festival heart The Court & Court Street

On the Hof from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 21, you will find the Festival Heart with the Saviors of Dordt Vloedcamp and you can learn more about the work of Veiligheidsregio Zuid-Holland Zuid, Deltares, Reddingsbrigade Nederland and waterboard Hollandse Delta.

Scavenger hunts, exhibits and tide pool test

Throughout the festival, there is a fringe program that allows you to learn more about water safety and flooding in your own way. We highlight a few.

Flood route

This walking tour takes you past many "high water spots" that show how high water has been dealt with in downtown Dordrecht over the past centuries.

Emergency package scavenger hunt

Get a stamp card and look for parts of the emergency kit in the store windows of retailers on Voorstraat, Vriesestraat and Sarisgang.

Save the city

Are you the new hero of Dordrecht? By solving the puzzles and unraveling the mystery of the water, you can save Dordrecht from another flood. Will you help?

River, boat, city

Visit the exhibition on the art project "River, Boat, City" at the Dordrecht Museum. Open throughout the festival.

Flood bulkhead test

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., the Hollandse Delta Water Board and the municipality will conduct the annual flood bulkhead test.
