From September 21 to October 1, the city center will be buzzing with activities during Festival for the Flood. Dordrecht will be celebrating the city's readiness for the storm season and learning more about water safety and what you can do in the event of a flood.
Ready for the flood
During the festival, the city works in ten days towards the start of the storm season on October 1. The big kickoff is on Saturday, September 21, when the city center of Dordrecht will draw attention to flooding and flooding in various playful ways. But, above all, we will celebrate the fact that Dordrecht is ready for the Flood!
Prepare for the flood with a variety of activities. On Saturday, Sept. 21, pop-up street theater portrays life with high tide in a playful way. You can see vans driving around with sandbags, underwater animals floating through the streets or beavers building a dam across a shopping street. The street theater can be found throughout downtown.
Come to the High & Dry Storm theater in a special house on the Voorstraat. You will be escorted to the attic by Rijkswaterstaat and there watery scenes await. Or experience what it's like to take shelter during a flood without light and electricity with the Hoog & Droog attic route.
On the Hof from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 21, you will find the Festival Heart with the Saviors of Dordt Vloedcamp and you can learn more about the work of Veiligheidsregio Zuid-Holland Zuid, Deltares, Reddingsbrigade Nederland and waterboard Hollandse Delta.
