History Watertoren Buitenlust
This water tower built entirely of concrete on the edge of Dubbeldam neighborhood was built in 1916 to a design by Visser and Smit of Papendrecht. The hexagonal tent roof was originally finished with plaster in sandstone color by the addition of ground sandstone. The water tower has a height of 36.40 meters and has a water reservoir of 200 m3. The tower has a spiral staircase of 112 steps on the outside, which leads to the viewing platform. Since 1973, the water tower has not been used for this purpose. The tower served as a transmission tower for some time after that. Since the sustainable renovation in 2000, the tower is open to the public and you can enjoy the view over the polders towards the Biesbosch from the seventh
