History Buitenlust water tower
This entirely concrete water tower on the edge of the Dubbeldam neighbourhood was built in 1916 to a design by Visser and Smit in Papendrecht. The hexagonal tent roof was originally finished with a plaster in sandstone colour by adding ground sandstone. The water tower is 36.40 metres high and has a water tank of 200 m3. The tower has a spiral staircase of 112 steps on the outside, leading to the viewing platform. The water tower has not been used for this purpose since 1973. After that, the tower served as a transmission tower for some time.
