Bever-Schaep House. At number 18 on Korte Engelenburgerkade, a monumental patrician house dominates the street. The seventeenth-century classicistic house is known as Bever-Schaep House, a reference to the descendants of the families who lived there. The family coat of arms, at the top, shows a beaver and a sheep. Above the door are two mermen, happy to see each other again. It was probably built by Martinus van der Pijpen, after whom the harbour was named Maartens gat. The façade corresponds to that of the house 'De Onbeschaamde' 14 in the Wijnstraat, where Van der Pijpen was the executor during construction. Architect of 'De Onbeschaamde' was master builder Pieter Post.
