The approximately 350-year-old merchant’s house that houses the Europ’Art Gallery features a 19th-century cornice façade. The facade has been altered, as have the windows on the first floor. In the 20th century, various artisans had workshops here, including a carpenter, a gilder, a sailmaker, and a plasterer. From 1973 to 1993, the renowned restorer and woodworker Bert Stoop (Zwijndrecht, 1931) had his studio there. In 1976, the then-Queen Beatrix, Prince Claus, and the young princes visited the studio. At the time, Stoop was working on wood carvings for the Royal Family’s sailing ship, “De Groene Draeck.” In addition to regular hours, the shop is also open by appointment. The shop is also open for shopping every first Sunday of the month.
On the waterfront, the painting “De Grachtwacht,” featuring Johan and Cornelis de Witt, Ary Scheffer, Aelbert Cuyp, and Ferdinand Bol, is mounted on the building.
