Artvark, a saxophone quartet that’s been dusted off. Away with the chairs! Away with the music stands! Artvark moves! Artvark meanders through musical traditions and moves across the stage in an improvised choreography.
Artvark stands for innovative original compositions, unconventional soloists, and the adventurous groove of four saxophones. Artvark moves, stinks, growls, and whistles.
Rolf Delfos (alto sax), Bart Wirtz (alto sax), Mete Erker (tenor sax), and Peter Broekhuizen (baritone sax) blend their diverse backgrounds into a unified, creative, and original sound: the Artvark sound!
The quartet performed at major international festivals and toured Ireland, Turkey, and South Africa on several occasions. In addition to its “solo” concerts, Artvark also engaged in special collaborations, such as with jazz legend Peter Erskine, the Senegalese master drummer Doudou n’Diaye Rose, and the world-renowned minimal music composer Philip Glass.
Bright and sparkling playing, melancholic and serene melodies… Lyrics brimming with emotion.
