Banya lecture.

An Introduction to the Surinamese Winti Religion
Sun, Sep. 20, 2026
14:00 - 19:00

For centuries, the Winti religion was banned and suppressed. Yet the knowledge was preserved within families and communities.

One trend that is becoming increasingly apparent is that people in the diaspora are once again seeking out their cultural and spiritual roots—not only to better understand their history, but also to pass on its significance to future generations.

On Sunday, September 20, Djamanti Creation will host the first Banya Lecture at the Dordrecht Cultural and Educational Center (CECD). During this afternoon event, the origins of the Surinamese Winti religion, the role of ancestors, rituals, traditions, and their significance within Surinamese culture will be explored.

This lecture marks the beginning of a series of events that will explore various topics related to Surinamese culture and history.

Admission is free. A voluntary donation to support the organization is appreciated.

Registration is required via https://www.cecd.nl/agenda/ or 0611437024.
