De Hardheid just can’t resist. The Amsterdam ska-punk band will be performing a limited number of shows again in 2026. The band, which called it quits in 2009, has since achieved cult status. Songs like “Buurman,” “Klootzak,” and “Kutmuziek” are still popular and relevant today. De Hardheid was formed in the mid-’90s in Amsterdam-West, where a few high school friends decided to start a band. After experimenting with metal and hip-hop, the band eventually turned to ska. In the early 2000s, with the addition of a horn section, the band increasingly took on the form of a ska band—but one with a hard, raw edge. That formula worked back then, and it still works today.
In 2023, De Hardheid also did a small reunion tour, completely rocking venues like Patronaat and Jera on Air, among others, followed in early 2026 by sold-out shows at Melkweg Max and Burgerweeshuis. Even though the band is no longer active at all—the website is gone, and there’s only a neglected Facebook page—fans still know where to find them. And so, old habits die hard. Although the band members are getting on in years, on stage they briefly transform back into the young guns of yesteryear, with catchy songs and provocative lyrics. So, seize the chance to see those old-timers live one more time—or finally see them live for the first time.
