On May 29, 30, and 31, the largest free steam event on the European mainland will take place for the twenty-first time. From the first to the last steam whistle, it’s a celebration for young and old alike. The official opening is on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. with the Fleet Review.
On Saturday and Sunday, the beautiful historic harbor area will take you back in time. The Wolwevershaven, once a bustling hub of steam tugs, will be transformed into the Kruimeltjeskade. Children can ride along on miniature steam trains. With the many steam engines, steamships, nets, barrels, steam-powered tools, and costumed reenactors, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back to 1850. Outdoor cafes, carousels, and music create a lively, festive atmosphere. At the model-building show on the Staart (Kerkeplaat) in the enormous hall of Stadsbeheer, you’ll be amazed by what you see. Model builders from all over Europe gather here with their stunning models—many of which move and feature sound and light effects.
