A Pub Lecture on Jeremy Bentham

do Apr. 2, 2026
20:00 - 21:00

Pub Lectures are free, accessible lectures covering a variety of topics, some of which have a specific Dordrecht connection. The lectures are an initiative of Remy Balistreri and Kees Klok. Through April, a free Pub Lecture will be held on the first Thursday of every month.

Bentham was a philosopher whose name is completely unknown to the general public, but whose ideas continue to have a major influence on our daily lives to this day. In addition, his name appears in textbooks for a wide range of disciplines, such as criminology, political science, economics, sociology, and history. So it’s high time to put him in the spotlight during this season’s final pub lecture. We’ll also take a look at some of the leading figures of his philosophical school, utilitarianism.
Guus de Landtsheer graduated with a degree in contemporary history from Utrecht University and served for many years as a history teacher and vice principal in Dordrecht.
