Thanks to their unique interpretations of standard repertoire and lesser-known works, the Otilka Quartet has become one of the Netherlands’ most acclaimed young quartets in recent years.
In October 2025, the quartet received the Kersjes Prize, which is awarded annually to exceptional talent in Dutch chamber music.
In the first half of their program, Mozart’s 15th Quartet is paired with Hans Henkemans’s String Quartet No. 3, a work that the Otilka Quartet is premiering 92 years after the composer wrote it. Both works are incredibly daring in their own way, making for an interesting pairing.
Next, we’ll hear two short pieces by Lili Boulanger that depict two different gardens—an impressionistic interlude that fits perfectly with the surroundings of Villa Augustus.
The program concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 8, Op. 59, No. 2, a new milestone in the evolution of string quartet music. It features drama, humor, and one of the most beloved slow movements Beethoven ever wrote.
