We are incredibly happy and proud that this season we’ve managed to secure none other than piano legend Rob van Bavel as the “artist in residence” at Muziekpodium DJS.
Rob van Bavel is one of the most versatile jazz pianists in the Netherlands and is known for his lyrical playing and deep roots in the tradition. He has received numerous (international) awards for his work, can be heard on more than 200 albums, and has performed (in addition to his own trio) with artists such as Woody Shaw, Wynton Marsalis, and Chet Baker.
Every fourth Sunday of the month, Rob invites a special musical guest for a surprising and intimate afternoon filled with improvisation and mutual inspiration. Each edition thus takes on its own character with unique combinations of styles—from swinging jazz to moments of tranquility with adventurous detours, spontaneous interaction, and, above all, plenty of fun for both performers and listeners.
On Sunday afternoon, September 27, Rob will host guitarist Martijn van Iterson. Van Iterson, who is not only a guitarist but also a composer and teacher, received the prestigious Bird Award from Pat Metheny at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2004. He creates contemporary jazz with a deep respect for tradition and has performed with the Metropole Orchestra, Randy Brecker, Rita Reys, and others; he is also the resident guitarist of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.
There are a limited number of seats available; the doors open at 2:30 p.m.
