Dutch drawings from private collections

A unique collection of Dutch drawings is being shown to the public for the first time. In the exhibition “Hidden Treasures,” you’ll discover more than 150 works on paper from the 17th through the 20th centuries, all passionately collected. A celebration of color and refinement, with a special focus on the often-overlooked 18th century.

From loose sketches in black chalk to detailed color drawings: the exhibition showcases the breadth and quality of Dutch drawing. Admire works by artists such as Gerard de Lairesse, Jacob de Wit, Cornelis and Sara Troost, Aert Schouman, Hendrik Willem Mesdag, Suze Robertson, and Isaac Israels.

Among the highlights are stunning watercolors by Herman Henstenburgh, who captured flowers, birds, and other animals with great precision. The exhibition also features drawings of landscapes, cities, biblical and mythological stories, seascapes, and scenes of daily life.

Through various themes, the exhibition takes you on a journey through Fields and Roads, Gods and Heroes, and Flora and Fauna. Both well-known masters and surprising discoveries reveal just how rich and diverse Dutch drawing has been throughout the centuries.

All of the works come from a single private collection, which is characterized by a love of drawing and an eye for quality.
