French nature filmmaker Vincent Munier previously directed *The Velvet Queen*, a documentary about the search for the extremely elusive snow leopard in the Tibetan Highlands. This time, he stays close to home: the forests of the Vosges, the landscape where he grew up. Together with his father Michel and his son Simon, he ventures into the forest, where fog hangs among the trees and time seems to slow down. Waiting in hides and listening to the forest, they observe lynx, deer, owls, and other forest dwellers. Munier captures the interplay of light, silence, and movement in stunning imagery.
At the same time, an intimate portrait of three generations unfolds, bound together by their shared love of nature. What the father once passed on to his son is now being passed on once more: patience, wonder, and respect for the invisible life around them.
"Whispers in the Woods " is a poetic nature film and a personal ode, in which Munier brings together his love for his family and for the forest in a sensory, almost fairy-tale-like cinematic experience. The film was named Best Documentary of the past year.
