On this page you will find the information of the Open Monument Days in 2024.
On September 14 and 15, 70 monuments will open their doors.
The theme of Open Monument Days 2024 is "Routes, Networks and Connections. As a city that has always been on the move, Dordrecht showcases its historical and contemporary connections. The program takes you on a journey through time with unique tours, exhibitions and activities. Discover the ancient trade routes and networks that still connect the city today.
Dordrecht is a true city of monuments and counts more than 1,000 monuments. The city was already big in the Middle Ages and developed into the trading and administrative center of Holland, experiencing its own golden age as early as the 14th century. Walking along the inner harbors, the important transshipment goods of the time are still clearly reflected in the street names, as the names Wijnstraat and Wijnhaven betray. During Open Monument Days, many monuments open their doors, extra fun because these monuments are not normally open to visitors.
Especially for this edition of the Open Monument Days, 3 fun (free) routes have been mapped out. The Dordrecht Trade Routes is a walk specially compiled for the 2024 Open Monument Days. You will pass places where Dordrecht's historical connections can still be seen. The Overbruggen route takes you past Dordrecht bridge keepers' houses. You can walk or cycle this route. Also discover monuments outside the inner city with the Monumental Dordrecht cycling route.
