With his arm hanging out the window, the driver of this hot rod taps along to the beat on the car door. A boogie track playing while the engine idles provides the perfect rhythm for the long drive. If the driver were to tune in to a radio station—and the El Camino Band were playing on every station—you’d hear their original music amid the static. Inspired by American artists whose music evokes images and scents of dust, asphalt, and roadside wooden “diners.” Rock & Roll for the ’50s diner, and on the drive to the next rest stop, a song that reminds you of John Fogerty. When you arrive at a roadside restaurant where the blues is playing through the speakers, you’ll hear a T-Birds shuffle with the theme that you should enjoy life.
Enjoyment is a recurring theme in the lyrics of the band El Camino. Drinking, dancing, and dreaming with the people you love while you still can. Having lost friends and fellow band members, the band members understand this all too well, and it’s woven into their songs of various styles. Music should make you smile, get you moving, and take you to places you’d love to be.
El Camino Band is currently recording a new album at Bo Brocken’s studio at Natural Records Recordings, the label the band is signed to. The original plan was to record a four-song EP. But the label was so enthusiastic about the recorded material that they quickly decided to turn it into a full-length album. It’s the perfect album for the road—or to take with you on the American highway when you close your eyes.
