What you see is what you get: choir and saxophone. Accompanied by nine female voices, Kika returns to the essence of her music: colorful melancholy that enriches, calms, and moves the listener. In the church’s unique acoustics, the lyrical saxophone and distinctive female voices blend together. Acoustic, with only sound, the audience, and the space.
Sprangers has previously incorporated vocals into many of her diverse projects. She has composed works commissioned by the North Sea Jazz Festival and TivoliVredenburg for the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the National Women’s Youth Choir. In her own Large Ensemble, four female singers take on the role of string players.
For HERA, Kika composes new music that connects the vocals and the saxophone, while also highlighting the individual voices. The distinct musical personalities within the collective demonstrate that there is beauty in being different. The group thrives on the colorful diversity of its ten unique musical personalities. It’s a surprising, harmoniously layered whole that leaves you feeling both soothed and invigorated as you walk out afterward.
