The Big Draw is an international drawing event that takes place annually, worldwide in many major cities. The whole city is asked and challenged to draw. During The Big Draw Festival, various drawing programs are set up around the city. These are programs to participate in in the form of workshops or programs to watch.
The Documentation and Knowledge Center Augustijnenhof and The Big Draw Dordrecht are looking for (Dordrecht) drawing talent! In the year 2000, the first 'Big Draw' drawing festival was organized in England. Meanwhile, The Big Draw has grown into an annual international festival. Dutch cities also participate, including Dordrecht, this year on September 11 to 14. On Saturday afternoon, September 13, there is plenty to see and do for beginning and experienced artists on the attractive square of Het Hof and in the Kloostertuin. Put it in your calendar!
In the Augustijnenhof - opposite museum Hof van Nederland - there are postcards, drawings, prints and books about Dordrecht for sale, among other things. Who is not familiar with the beautiful watercolors and drawings by Johannes Rutten (1809-1884), a pupil of Abraham van Strij? And what about the drawing talent of Otto Dicke, Jan Hensema or Ad Bakker? They too captured Dordrecht in their drawings.
Drawing is of all times. Like last year, Het Augustijnenhof and The Big Draw Dordrecht are looking for contemporary drawing talent of all ages, both novice and experienced. We therefore call on all residents of the Drechtsteden to make a drawing of a self-chosen location in the city of Dordrecht or with a view of the city of Dordrecht always in relation to water. Think of the river(s), harbors, bridges, ships.
Those wishing to participate can submit a drawing through Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, at the Augustijnenhof, Court 15, open Tues. to Fri. & the 1st Saturday of the month from 11:00-16:00. All drawings will be exhibited on the public days of The Big Draw Dordrecht (Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025). An expert jury will determine who proves to be a worthy successor to the aforementioned Dordrecht draughtsmen. Depending on the entries, age differences will be taken into account. Thus, several winners may be chosen. Last year's winners included the young, up-and-coming talent Luna Schot with her unparalleled watercolor technique and the audience award was for Jomane Almansoury.
