The sun on your face, a good conversation, a drink within reach, and time that seems to stand still for a moment… You’ll find that summery feeling in the work that Dordrecht-based artist Wytske van de Kamp will be exhibiting at Branderhorst starting Saturday, July 25.
Her series “Summer Terrace Time” consists of small watercolors with playful ink sketches that focus on encounters, conviviality, and the relaxed atmosphere of terrace life. With fresh colors and loose lines, she captures the liveliness of long summer days when everyone lingers just a little longer. For Wytske, experimentation is just as important as creation. She works with various techniques, styles, and materials and continually challenges herself. After years of painting primarily on canvas, she returns to an old love with this series: watercolor painting.
Her light, spontaneous technique fits seamlessly with the atmosphere she aims to evoke. Her paintings are just as versatile as she is. From figurative to abstract, and from Impressionist to Expressionist: recognizable by her free brushstrokes and her love of color. Sometimes soft and light, sometimes exuberant and powerful, but always full of energy. A true colorist, with a sunny outlook on life.
