With the 'Eiland van Dordrecht' bicycle route, you will discover not only the beautiful historic city center, but also the beautiful outlying area. Before that time, Dordrecht belonged to the Groote or Hollandsche Waard. Polders, dikes, creeks and Holland's oldest city Dordrecht characterize this special island. During the Second World War, there was heavy fighting in the area. During this cycle route, you will come across several casemates and bunkers. Leuke tussenstop om even uit te blazen

Many cyclists usually make a stop there, which is not surprising, according to Alex Verburg. "From the center, many people cycle towards the Biesbosch. They then make a quick stop at our place. We have a large, beautiful terrace on the Wantij where you can take a break from cycling. Eat and drink something delicious - like our fresh apple pie! - and then you can hit the road again in good spirits. In April we are going to renovate the terrace even further and there will also be bicycle charging points at our restaurant."

We recommend that you especially enjoy the nature during the bike tour, such as the beautifully landscaped bike paths in the Nieuwe Dordtse Biesbosch. Don't forget to have a picnic in between! There are two bicycle routes of 12.5 and 18 kilometers through the Nieuwe Dordtse Biesbosch. Until 2017, this was an agricultural area. Now it has a sustainable and resilient water system and forms a buffer between National Park De Biesbosch and the city of Dordrecht. It is about 530 hectares in size. You cycle past places of interest that make the route even more enjoyable.
