Food Design Playground

Food Design Playground is a place where you learn to look differently at something very ordinary: food. This monumental location in the center of Dordrecht is not about luxury tables or perfectly prepared plates, but about your senses. Here it's all about what food does - with your body, your thoughts, your memories.

They organize pop-up dinners featuring radical chefs and designers. For example, you can take part in an audio tasting where you listen, blindfolded, to a story that unfolds in your mouth. There are exhibitions and installations on food design, a food book club called “eat what you read,” and children’s theater with edible workshops.

In addition, this is also the place where you can get started yourself. During retreats and workshops you will learn how to use food as a design material - or as a means to tell a story, design a ritual, and to really touch people.

There’s a library full of books on food design, food culture, systems, language, forms, and philosophy. And a small concept shop where you’ll find sensory gifts, unique objects, and edible ideas. Food Design Playground isn’t your typical restaurant. You can’t just walk in here for lunch. They operate on an event basis—performances, dinners, workshops, and other occasions when the door is wide open. And good to know: you don’t have to be a designer to feel at home here. In fact, “ordinary” people with curiosity and an appetite are more than welcome. For anyone who’s had enough of food as a product and is ready to embrace food as a process. For dreamers, thinkers, creators, doubters, and foodies. For those who have the courage to take their taste buds on a journey into uncharted territory.

The various spaces are available for rent for creative gatherings, meetings, dinners, lectures, or inspiration sessions. With or without catering, always with character. Food Design Playground is an initiative by Marije Vogelzang. Marije started out as a designer in 1999 and is one of the pioneers in the field.
