This fall break, there’s plenty to enjoy in Dordrecht! You can have fun indoors—at a museum or the movie theater, for example—but you can also enjoy yourself outdoors during this break. How about a visit to the Biesbosch Center, for instance?

Visit the museums in Dordrecht

The Dordrechts Museum is a great place for a fall break outing! Not only because of the family exhibition “I See, I See—A World Full of Art,” but also because of the other activities for children taking place at museums in Dordrecht. As part of the Johan de Witt exhibition, there will be a17th-century letter-folding workshop on October 23. And at Huis Van Gijn on Wednesday, October 22, there’s a fun workshop on decorating candles with wax. You can also visit the museum’s toy attic, which features a play corner with old-Dutch toys and a dress-up room with some children’s costumes. You can also explore the rest of the museum house with a fun scavenger hunt sheet. Want to try another workshop? On Wednesday, October 22, and Sunday, October 29, the Hof van Nederland Museum is hosting a workshop on making protest buttons. You can also take the super-fun kids’ tour “Bevrijd Griffioen” there—you’ll get a bag of props and go on a scavenger hunt throughout the entire museum!

Plenty of activities at Weizigt

During fall break, there’s a fun, free activity almost every day at Weizigt in Weizigt Park. Even when there isn’t an activity, there’s plenty to do. Visit the animals at the City Farm, go mushroom hunting in the Gardens, learn all about water at the Aquarama, or pick up a scavenger hunt at the information desk. On Saturday, October 18, there’s IVN Scharrelkids for children ages 7 through 12. The theme is “Trees, Mosses & Lichens.” Monday, October 20, is all about the Toppie Mini-Vacation Day, a day full of fun and inspiration for parents and children ages 0 to 4. Tuesday, October 21, is time for Biokaatje—join Biokaatje (Karin Lammers) to discover how much fun biology is! Participants will put together skeleton puzzles, look at all kinds of tiny creatures up close through a real microscope, and do some drawing. Thursday, October 23, features animal drawing, led by Freek de Vries from Studio Agape. On Saturday, October 25, there’s IVN Scharrelkids for children ages 4 through 6. The theme is “Mushrooms.” So there’s plenty to do at Weizigt!

Go to the movie

Is the weather a little less than ideal during fall break? No worries—take your kids to see the movie “Hopper 2: The Secret of the Marmot”! For example, at De Witt Dordrecht. The story: Hopper the rabbit has become a true adventurer. Together with his best friends Meg and Abe, he travels all over the world. Everything changes when he meets Gina, a mysterious stranger who turns out to be his sister. Gina tells him that their kind is in grave danger. To save them, they must search for a special creature: the Backward-Facing Marmot. As the tension mounts, Hopper discovers who he is and where he truly belongs. You won’t want to miss this this fall break, will you? The movie “King of the Tramps” is also showing this break at De Witt Dordrecht. Eleven-year-old Meissy is overjoyed when her father Tom returns home after years of traveling, but her mother won’t let her spend time with him. Is it because he’s a drifter? During secret visits, she gets to know Tom and his world of drifters, but she also discovers that he sees things that aren’t there and that he believes he’s a king. Are these fantasies harmless or actually dangerous? If you’re already looking forward to the holidays, take your kids to see a Sinterklaas movie at Kinepolis Dordrecht this fall break, during the Kleuterbios. It’s a great way to get in the mood!

Lunch with the kids

Don’t miss Kat in ’t Bakkie this fall—it’s a great spot for lunch with the kids. There’s a special kids’ lunch menu just for the little ones, featuring grilled cheese sandwiches, poffertjes, and open-faced sandwiches with (peanut) butter. In other words: they really go out of their way to accommodate kids here! It’s a welcoming spot where kids can play to their heart’s content in a relaxed atmosphere. Another great spot for lunch with kids is Restaurant Post. It’s the go-to culinary hangout in the heart of the city for anyone who loves good food and drinks. You’ll find a game cabinet full of games for all ages, in collaboration with Pip & zo. Fun fact: Restaurant Post is located in the former post office building and is centrally situated on the “red carpet”!
