The Dordrechts Museum, founded in 1842, is one of the oldest museums in our country. It has an impressive collection of paintings from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century, with masterpieces by such masters as Aelbert Cuyp, Ary Scheffer, Nicolaes Maes, Ferdinand Bol, the Maris brothers, J.H. Weissenbruch and George Breitner.
It also possesses a fine collection of modern and contemporary art. In 2010, the museum reopened after a major renovation. It received a new exhibition wing, which forms a charming contrast with the original building, a former insane asylum. From the conservatory or on the terrace of the museum restaurant Art & Dining, you can enjoy the garden with beautiful old sycamores.
