Dordrechts Museum

The Dordrechts Museum, founded in 1842, is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. It houses an impressive collection of paintings from the 16th through the 19th centuries, featuring masterpieces by artists such as Aelbert Cuyp, Ary Scheffer, Nicolaes Maes, Ferdinand Bol, the Maris brothers, J.H. Weissenbruch, and George Breitner. It also houses a fine collection of modern and contemporary art. In 2010, the museum reopened after a major renovation. It gained a new exhibition wing, which, together with the original building—a former mental asylum—creates a charming contrast. From the conservatory or on the terrace of the museum restaurant Art & Dining, you can enjoy the garden with its beautiful old plane trees.
