Anyone who loves quilting is probably familiar with the famous quilt from the Huis Van Gijn museum collection. It’s currently on display as part of the themed exhibition “Sustainability Through Diligence,” and this afternoon it will be specially set up so visitors can examine it up close!
The quilt in the Van Gijn Collection is one of the earliest patchwork quilts from the Netherlands (1775–1800). The quilt is made of chintz, a hand-painted cotton fabric, and measures 1157 by 193 cm. The pattern, aptly named “Simon,” can be found in quilt books and is regularly reproduced on a smaller scale. Especially for this afternoon, the quilt will be removed from the bed in the exhibition so that a small group can view it up close.
