Indeed: events to melt at - hopefully not from overheating but from fun! Stroll over the Dordrecht Book Market, visit the art manifestation KUNSTHOOFD on the Groothoofd and enjoy music at Big Rivers as well as during the Monday evenings of Parkies.
There is a lot going on in the city this summer.
The 28th edition of the Dordrecht Book Market is coming up again! You will find not only books, but also LPs. There are nearly 400 stalls to discover - including quite a few by authors who have published and are selling their own books during the Dordt Book Market - and that's even more than last year. The theme is "Ego and the Other," a reference to several biographies that have been published, such as the one about Johan de Witt by Jean-Marc van Tol. A nice stepping stone for the organization to plan activities around this. For example, there is a large Johan de Witt program around the library and at that location there will also be an interview with the writer and designer of the biography of Godfried Bomans: Gé Vaartjes and Pim Oxener. There is also a great music program and of course the complete program breathes nothing but love for books. Come browse around!
Parkies is celebrating an anniversary this year, namely its 25th edition in Dordrecht! That will be five Monday nights long enjoying all kinds of concerts in the Wantijpark. July 14 kicks off with Inge van Calkar and Daniel Greys, July 21 it's time for Marlon Pichel and Grainbait, July 28 is reserved for Vera & The Sleepover Club and Glam!, August 4 Koen Vael and Berber will perform and August 11 is the closing night with not only HIIGO and Allus, but also a real surprise act. Then there is also weekly Silent Disco in collaboration with Do You Do, super fun to experience. "Parkies is so successful because it is a meeting place," says Bas Witlox. "Meeting in green: that's what it's all about. During the often not so busy Monday evening, when many people often have nothing planned. What could be more fun then to enjoy free musical entertainment in the Wantijpark?"
Do you enjoy seeing artists live at work and looking around at all kinds of art? Then come to KUNSTHOOFD this summer, an art event at the Groothoofd that takes place seven Sundays in July and August! Various artists display their work at booths and you can also see them at work. From painting to drawing and from sculpture to ceramics - all kinds of things will come along. There will also be catering and live music, so it will be one cozy affair, predicts Teus Zantman. "You can stroll around the stalls and have a drink and a bite on the terrace. Meanwhile, boats sail by on the water, which is really enjoyable. KUNSTHOOFD is always very busy, especially with nice weather. And we have something to celebrate, because we are organizing this art event for the tenth year already!"
