Film in the backyard - Aug. 5 to 27

'The ambiance of the garden adds an extra dimension to the movie experience'. Feel like watching a good movie on a nice summer evening? Then do it outside! Cinema The Movies is hosting six screenings in the Monastery Garden this summer, with films such as Licorice Pizza, A Bigger Splash and Le Grand Bain. "As people have come to expect from The Movies, we offer quality cinema," says owner Geert ter Steeg. "The ambience of the garden at dusk, finely enclosed by the historic setting of our beautiful city, adds an extra dimension to the movie experience." Films are on Friday and/or Saturday nights and begin around 9:30 p.m., but the garden and bar open as early as 6:30 p.m. "Often the visitors settle down early to get a good seat and enjoy a wonderful summer evening," he said. Tickets at 8 euros each are on sale at themoviesdordrecht.nl. In case of bad weather, the film will be shown in one of the cinema halls.

Rockabilly Square - Sunday, Aug. 28

'It promises to be another wonderful, convivial festival'. Get those petticoats out of the attic, pull those polka dots out of the closet and get your hair varnished, because on the last Sunday of the month we are going back to the '50s and '60s. During the festival Rockabilly Square you will hear catchy rock 'n' roll from two stages on the Statenplein and Statenplaats. Chances are you won't be able to stand still. "During this sixth edition there is again a great line-up of artists," says organizer Wendy Stendert. "What I'm very happy about is that The Voice Kids winner Dax Hovius is coming to sing. I had already asked him before the whole corona event and in the meantime he has become quite well known. There will be many local bands and artists playing and food trucks from local entrepreneurs. It promises to be a wonderful, convivial festival." The festival begins at 1 p.m.
