Augustinian Church

Add to favorites

Wedged in between the historic buildings, on the Voorstraat in Dordrecht, is the medieval Augustijnenkerk. Many people who visit Dordrecht or live here overlook the church... undeservedly!

The church dating from 1293/1450 belonged to the Augustinian monastery. This monastery has been of great significance for the civil and religious history of the oldest city in Holland and the Republic of the United Netherlands. The first reformed church service was held in the Augustijnenkerk on Sunday 17 July 1572 and since then it has been used as the place of worship for the Reformed Church.

From April to October, the church is open every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturdays, guided tours are given by the volunteers of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Augustinian Church from 11:00-16:00. On these Saturdays there are concerts at 14:00.
