The medieval Great or Our Lady Church in Dordrecht is a building with a rich history, whose origins lie in the 11th century. Not only the imposing architecture of the exterior of the church, but also the monuments, chapels and choir stalls present in the building, make it the most important monument in Dordrecht. The interior of the church is certainly worth a visit.
The leaning tower is striking. According to the design, it should have been 108 metres high with a spire. During construction, the tower began to sag, causing the architect to stop at 65 metres and therefore the tower no longer has a spire.
Do you dare? Climbing the 65 metre high tower with 275 steps? The tower has different opening hours. Check the Grote Kerk website for detailed visitor information.
Let op! De toren van de Grote Kerk is tijdelijk niet toegankelijk.
