Maarten Mostert's workshop is located at Keizershof 34, in a very old building that for decades was only inhabited by dozens of pigeons. The building probably dates from 1600. Throughout the centuries it has been visibly rebuilt. He has converted the upper floors into a home, and his workshop is on the ground floor.
Mostert is at his best in an environment of decay and lack of maintenance. He restores historic buildings and Dordt monuments. He gives the materials that are released in the process a second life in the form of furniture, such as tables, lamps and home decoration.
His workshop is therefore full of old planks, window frames, panel doors and other dusty relics from buildings he has restored. The designs are determined by the material; he does not work with preconceived designs.
