Stratenus House. In 1771, grain merchant Cornelis Stratenus turned two seventeenth-century buildings into a large and richly decorated house. He commissioned the 61-year-old Aert Schouman to create murals in trompe l'oeil, a painting technique that appears deceptively realistic. Until 1904, the house was occupied by various Dordrecht families. After that, the State bought it and it became a court and an office. In 1998, it again came into the hands of a private individual, who opened an antique shop there.
