The Kunstmin theatre is a national monument dating from 1889 and designed by architect Jan Verheul. The Dordrecht theatre is often called the most beautiful theatre of the Netherlands by artists and that is not without reason. Schouwburg Kunstmin offers the best of both worlds: the atmosphere and ambiance of a stylish national monument combined with the technical possibilities and comfort of today. The building is loved and known for its neo-baroque interior that architect Sybold van Ravesteyn added in the 1930s. Round shapes, lavish decorations and ornaments characterise his style. Van Ravesteyn also designed the semicircular pavilion on the side of the building. It currently houses the Theatre Café. After a two-year restoration, the theatre reopened its doors to the public at the end of 2014. The modern interior design by Studio Makkink & Bey and the unique architecture by Van Ravesteyn provide visitors with the experience of a contemporary yet authentic and stylish theatre building.
