't Zeepaert is one of the best-preserved Gothic houses in the Netherlands and a unique building, consisting of a front and back house. It dates from 1495 and was built on the remains of a stone house from 1300. The unique, almost intact high gothic stepped gable of Namur stone is richly decorated. Around 1495, the gable was probably shipped from the vicinity of Liège and assembled here. The second floor with the old warehouse and roof space is still in its original state. Here you can still see the hardstone cross windows, as well as a solid timber frame. In addition to the rich Gothic decorations by the stonemason, the anchors were also richly decorated by the blacksmith. The Hendrick de Keyser Association now owns the building and has restored it to an office and living space.

  • Year built: Around 1495
  • Style of construction: Gothic
  • Original function: Dwelling house
