Villa Augustus, water tower and pump building. During Open Monument Days, the pump building can be visited, the water tower cannot. The water tower can of course be admired from the garden. At the corner of Oranjelaan and Noordendijk is the former drinking water pipeline site with the Water Tower dating from 1881-1883 and the pump building dating from 1942. The 33-meter-high Water Tower was built in eclectic style with influences of neo-Renaissance. The square building had four eight-angle turrets between which the water reservoir was located. When the reservoir was raised in 1938 to increase the tower's capacity, the turrets disappeared. This elevation, a 16-meter-high metal pipe, was removed in 1982. Like Watertoren Buitenlust in Dubbeldam, this water tower has been given an entirely new purpose as part of Villa Augustus. Hotel rooms and halls have been realized in the Water Tower and the adjacent boiler house. The original tower, which was replaced, now also contains a hotel room. The Pumping Station, built in the new business style, served to pump groundwater, regulate pressure in the water supply and purify groundwater. Here today are located the market and the restaurant (with terrace on the garden side) of Villa Augustus. The grounds include moss gardens, greenhouses, an orchard and Italian garden. They are inspired by gardens from the Renaissance and late Middle Ages.
