This walk has been specially composed for the theme 'Routes, networks and connections' of the Open Monument Days 2024. You will pass places where Dordrecht's historical connections can still be seen. The city has had connections with other cities and countries for centuries and this is still visible today.
The walk starts and ends at the Wine Bridge.
With remote control of bridges via cameras, Dordrecht's bridge keepers' houses stood lonely. Since 2018, the national Stichting Brugwachtershuisjes has changed that with exhibition spaces, unexpected meeting space, tiny office and mini museum. Occasionally a real bridge keeper still comes to serve locally in need. Cycle or walk independently 4 km past these bridge keeper houses.
Tour with guide
On Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., walk with guide and Dordrecht resident Lotti Hesper of Stichting Brugwachtershuisjes. Pre-registration is not required.
Starting point: At the bottom of the steps of Zwijndrechtsebrug near Skatepark Dordrecht. End point: Riedijksbrug.
During Open Monument Days, you can discover not only the city center, but also the many special monuments outside the city center. These places are more difficult to reach on foot, but perfect for cycling enthusiasts. Therefore, together with Rond Uit Dordrecht, we have mapped out a beautiful bicycle route along the monuments outside the center. Follow the blue arrows to follow the complete cycling route.
The route starts and ends at the Spuiboulevard. Note: not all monuments are open both days, see route.
