Product description

In 1572 a special meeting took place in Dordrecht. The representatives of twelve Dutch cities, together with the Sea Beggars and an envoy of Prince William of Orange, chose for William of Orange and against King Philip II of Spain.

In doing so, they in fact laid the foundation for the Netherlands as we know it today. Former journalist Joke Vente describes the run-up to the States Assembly in the Hof in Dordrecht, the role of the Sea Beggars and how in 1572 Marnix van Sint Aldegonde, representing the Prince, made an urgent appeal for support to the States.
