Adaptation of Tennessee Williams' stage classic 'A Streetcar Named Desire'

'Blanche' is an adaptation of the play classic ' A Streetcar Named Desire' by the American writer Tennessee Williams. The vulnerable but proud Blanche Dubois has decided to leave her past behind and temporarily moves in with her sister Stella and brother-in-law Stanley. There she is confronted with the dominant behavior of Stanley, who in turn feels threatened by the arrival of Blanche. Closely packed together, the tensions continue to increase . When Stella is away, a violent sexual confrontation between Blanche and Stanley occurs during a long , dark night .

For 'Blanche', director Belle van Heerikhuizen once again collaborates with writer Annet Bremen, with whom she made the acclaimed 'Wil je een snoepje?' in 2022. Where Tennessee Williams in his original play describes all the events up to the night Blanche is raped by Stanley and the morning after , this adaptation zooms in on that night itself . What exactly happened there ? Theo d'Or winner Mariana Aparicio plays the role of Blanche, also featuring Joris Smit and Esther Scheldwacht .
