June 6 through 9, 2025 is not only Pentecost, but also Day of the Castle. Dozens of castles and country houses can be visited in the Netherlands that weekend. There will also be activities in Dordrecht or in the immediate vicinity (up to ten kilometers away).
This year's theme is "Outside," focusing on all the outdoor areas of the castles. Most of the sites are free to visit, but this varies from castle to castle. There will also be a variety of activities for both children and adults.
In Huis van Gijn there will be special themed activities on these days such as tours of the house and garden, on-the-spot explanations by collection experts, a creative workshop, old Dutch games in the museum garden and a historical tasting.
And to mark the 100th anniversary, the museum will be extra special on Whit Monday, literally stepping out into the open. Between noon and 4 p.m., a nostalgic horse-drawn streetcar will ride around between the museum and the historic center of Dordrecht! Hop on for free and step back in time.
During Castle Day, also visit the anniversary exhibition "Of the Party!" about a century of party and costume wear. Explore the museum's fashion collection in the historic interiors of the house. From wedding gowns and a liberation skirt to children's costumes and Simon van Gijn's masquerade costume.
