Colorfully danced rite of passage to the afterlife
When children are faced with loss and parting, it can be very drastic. Director and choreographer Ryan Djojokarso wants to show with Yanasei, Surinamese for afterlife, that death is part of life. In his imaginative and colorful dance performance, featuring live vocals and modern versions of traditional Surinamese music, a boy wakes up in an enigmatic place unknown to him. He discovers that he has entered the vestibule of Yanasei, a magical world full of strange creatures. At first he is afraid of everything new and wants to return home. Slowly he learns about the land and makes friends. But even in this world there are stupids and misfortunes. Before he finds peace in Yanasei, he must first deal with something from the past.
