The Nutcracker is the Christmas ballet par excellence. State Opera Bulgaria Stara Zagora brings this magical fairy tale to music by Tchaikovsky to life for young and old.
Magical fairy tale as the ultimate Christmas ballet
No ballet captures the Christmas spirit quite like The Nutcracker. Pyotr Tchaikovsky's world-famous composition grew into a classic after its premiere in St. Petersburg - in the Christmas week of 1892. Its sounds inspired choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov to create spectacular pas de deux and, of course, the famous Flower Waltz.
Clara receives as a Christmas present a doll, a so-called nutcracker, who at night in her dream turns into a handsome prince. He takes Clara to a wonderful fairy tale world. The nutcracker leads an army of tin soldiers in an exciting battle against a false mouse king. After his victory, the prince treks with Clara to their dream candy kingdom. As always, this adventurous journey provides a magical evening for young and old alike. The State Opera Bulgaria Stara Zagora is known for its beautiful rendition of classical ballets.
The performance can be with live music from a 42-piece orchestra or with the music on tape.
