The Biesbosch played an important role in World War II, hiding people, hiding ships and holding Germans prisoner. In the last months of the war, the Biesbosch was the border between occupied and liberated Holland, an exciting period for the line-crossers. An important piece of history, which we would like you to experience.

Otto Muller of Het Binnenvaartmuseum and Biesbosch guide Leen Fijnekam are jointly organizing a unique cruise to allow you to experience this special part of the Biesbosch during this beautiful trip on the historic ship Veerdienst 3. Part of the crossing route will be sailed, past memorable places where Biesbosch guide Leen Fijnekam will tell stories about important events and the brave people who fought for freedom here.

Built in 1898 in Dordrecht as a steamship, the Veerdienst 3 has always remained loyal to Dordrecht and has survived the war years. Extra special is the fact that during the Second World War, in the Nieuwe Haven in Dordrecht, people were hidden in the engine room of the Veerdienst 3, so history comes very close again after 80 years.
