Prior to the regular opening period during the months of April through October, the Great Church is open extra on Saturdays during the months of February and March.

The Grote or Onze- Lieve- Vrouwe Kerk of Dordrecht has been part of the inner city of Dordrecht for centuries. A chapel, probably built around 1100, formed the beginning. This chapel was demolished and replaced by a larger building, which over time grew into the full-fledged church building it is today. With its imposing appearance, the Grote Kerk defines the silhouette of Dordrecht.

The Great Church is a National Monument and is listed in the 1990 Top 100 of the National Trust for the Preservation of Monuments (now the National Cultural Heritage Agency).

The church has a rich building history with complex restorations. The tower is owned by the municipality of Dordrecht. The nave of the Protestant church, which has been protestant since 1572, is owned by the ecclesiastical Hervormde Gemeente Dordrecht, the merged congregation to which the Grote Kerk Gemeente belongs. There are three organs in the Grote Kerk with their own history.

Attention! The tower of the Great Church is temporarily inaccessible!
