Sofia (Emma Mackey) and her mother Rose (Fiona Shaw) spend the summer in the coastal town of Almería. There, Rose is treated by charming doctor Gómez for the inexplicable physical symptoms that confine her to a wheelchair. During their stay under the sweltering Spanish sun, Sofia is hypnotized by the attraction of the free-spirited Ingrid (Vicky Krieps). As the temperature continues to rise and Sofia begins to grow stronger in her shoes, the bond between her and her mother becomes increasingly fragile.
Based on the book of the same name by Deborah Levy , this is the directorial debut of successful screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz (The Salt Path and Ida, among others). Sofia discovers and struggles with herself between her mother and a vacation romance.
