L'amour Ouf is an epic cocktail of nostalgia, love and violence. Director Gilles Lellouche brought together a star-studded French cast for a raw, romantic fairy tale set during the '80s and '90s. You can see in it an adaptation of West Side Story or Romeo & Juliet, heavily inspired by the work of Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino.
We see an intense teenage love blossom between the misfit Jackie(Mallory Wanecque) and the rebellious Clotaire(Malik Frikah). Their relationship is severely tested when Clotaire chooses the bad path. Gang violence lands him in jail and so they lose sight of each other. Years later, Clotaire(François Civil) tries to get his life back on track and goes in search of Jackie(Adèle Exarchopoulos) . Can love conquer all?
This paragon in the genre of love drama became a cinema hit in France and scored no fewer than 13 nominations at the César Awards. That merited a release in the Netherlands.
