Sonny Hayes(Brad Pitt) was a very promising Formula One driver in the 1990s. But an accident broke his career. Thirty years later, he is a touring driver, getting hired for races. He is approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes(Javier Bardem), now owner of an ailing F1 team. Ruben manages to convince Sonny to return to Formula One, seizing one last chance to keep his racing stable. Sonny himself gets the last chance to become the best in the world after all. His teammate will be Joshua Pearce(Damson Idris), the talented rookie determined to become the fastest himself. Once the engines roar, Sonny is haunted by his past. Moreover, it turns out that in F1, your teammate can be your biggest competitor. Succeeding on his own won't work. What will?
